All consultations with the doctor or practice nurse are by appointment only. You can telephone the practice or come into reception to arrange an appointment.

The normal appointment time is 15 minutes with the doctor and 10 minutes with the nurse.  The nurse may request you to make a longer appointment.

Triage Appointments

The surgery uses a triage system to assess patients needing an appointment before the next routine appointment. The receptionist has been trained to ask some questions that are designed to help the doctor or nurse assess priority.

Telephone Appointments

As well as face to face consultations our practice now also offers the option of telephone consultations. If you wish to talk to the doctor or nurse about a problem but do not feel you need to be seen, please ask for a telephone consultation. The receptionist will take some brief details about the problem and arrange a suitable time for the doctor or nurse to phone you. Land lines are preferable to mobiles, and if you are at work you will need to be assured of privacy/confidentiality.

Questions about medication or updating the doctor about a previous problem, or even prolonging a sick line may be suitable for a telephone consultation. If the doctor feels after a telephone consultation that you still need seen, you will be offered an appointment as soon as possible thereafter.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly.

If you have poor English the practice can arrange an interpreter to help you communicate at your surgery appointment.

Unfortunately the practice will not arrange interpreting services for hospital based appointments. We can however request in our letter that the hospital arrange an interpreter at the time of a referral being done.

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

The surgery uses text messaging to remind patients of there appointment.  If you do not wish to receive a text please let the staff know.
